This plot is coming off a fall planting of rye. The plan here is to allow the rye to go to full maturity and do a throw and mow brassica plot for the fall. The big challenge with this plot is compaction. It was an old logging trail that we expanded a little. It needs to have it's packed soil loosened up to get it back to working condition.
This trip up, I put a camera out to get ready for spring emergence. I hope it's not far off. I'm excited to watch this one go. I have really pushed the fertility here to try to get most bang outta this rye in both root mass below ground, and biomass above ground. This will be a key part in getting the brassica to work in the throw and mow method.
I also pushed the K levels in this plot. We've started building levels in the plots here, but I wanted to push this one hard and fast. It's a small plot, so it's relatively easy. This trip up, I put out 50 pounds of potash on this 1/10th acre plot. That's a pretty good shot. I also put out a 400lb/ac rate of gypsum. I'm testing out a number of different deer food species with gypsum applications. I'm hoping to see a combination of better growth and more desirability over the same stuff that doesn't have gypsum on it.

Things are just starting to green up. I put down a 60lb rate of N to get the rye jump started.
